By Rainer Von Helin Sep 1, 2014
Starting today from the 1st until the 7th of September, those stumbling into Valletta will be able to enjoy the first edition of the Valletta International Visual Arts Festival, which will serve as a new platform for Maltese and international visual artists. Attendants will be able to partake in lectures and workshops of the VIVA Curatorial School, held at the University of Malta (Valletta Campus) from Monday 1st of September to Friday 5th of September between 09:30 and 16:00, with a final roundtable session at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity on Saturday morning, 6th September. Visitors will also be able to attend screenings and listen in on various public lectures such as that of Mieke Bal – From Novel to Film – Anachronism, Quotation and the Performative Image at the St James Cavalier Music Room on Tuesday the 2nd of September starting at 19:30. The festival aims to offer professional education while promoting and encouraging the public to participate in the arts. The organizers of the festival hope to create new international networks that will last far beyond the festival itself.
