The Iconic Loop Bar in The Gut
By Rainer Von Helin on Sep 1, 2014
After being closed for 40 years, it was restored to its former glory and it is now one of the best places to enjoy Strait Street as it once was. Strait Street in Valletta is one of the best-known streets on the island of Malta, popularly known as Strada Stretta or The Gut. After WW2 the Loop Bar was a popular joint for sailors from around the world who were lured into the bar’s wooden green doors by its red neon lights. Thanks to its new tenants, the Loop Bar is now back to its authentic form, shining as bright as it once used to. It’s unique interior and charm is still preserved and downstairs by the toilets you can even find memorabilia on display from its bygone post war era. As for the food, the Loop Bar now boasts of a modern kitchen installed in the newly renovated back yard. The menu includes all kinds of seafood, meats, salads and platters to share at affordable prices. We recommend the Shellfish Platter for two, which includes fresh scallops, mussels, clams, razor clams and king prawns cooked with fresh herbs and served with a side salad; all for €29. If you’re looking to enjoy good food with good atmosphere, don’t hesitate to try the Loop Bar in the gut.
