By the Sea
By Rainer Von Helin on Sep 1, 2014
Not only have Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gotten married recently on the 23rd of August, they have also been busy setting up and starting their new production, written and directed by Jolie herself, titled By the Sea. The actor couple were married at the Château Mirval in France, and arrived to Malta days later. Pitt and Jolie are both producing as well as co-starring together in By The Sea, working together for the second time since they both appeared together on screen in 2005 in the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which is where they met and fell in love. The upcoming film has been described as an "intimate, character-driven drama" by Universal Pictures. The filming will take place at Mgarr ix-Xini on the Maltese island of Gozo. The production has been said to last eight weeks, starting at the end of August carrying on until November. The small bay of Mgarr ix-Xini and a large area of the surrounding countryside have been closed off till early November and a film set has been built. The couple has even paid the owner of a beach side restaurant to close up for three months to give them unrestricted access to the coastline.
The abundance of natural light, turquoise waters, English speaking locals and crewmembers, as well as a myriad of financial incentives in the audiovisual industry make Malta a favorable film production destination. Over the years Malta has hosted a number of international film productions including, Kon-Tiki (2012), Agora (2009), Munich (2009), Troy (2004), Gladiator (2000) and Popeye (1980). With the Mediterranean at its best serving as a backdrop for By the Sea, it is definitely a very promising production both for the local economy and tourism of Malta as well as the audiences around the world who can’t wait to plunge into a seaside dream with Brangelina.
